Baroque (from Italian – strange, whimsical), a style in the painting and architecture of Europe and Latin America of the late XVI — mid XVIII century. In fine art, the Baroque was embodied in dynamic multi-color subjects, the play of light and shadow, and the rhythmic and picturesque unity of images on the canvas. The Baroque period has left us many names of brilliant artists: Peter Paul Rubens, Rembrandt van Rhein, Michelangelo Merisi (Caravaggio), Andrea del Pozzo, and Carracci.
The most striking features of Baroque painting are elegant luxury, pathetic admiration and entertainment, bright color and dynamics of everyday scenes, and freedom of composition. Continue reading
