Any interaction often involves mutual use as well. If photography initially perceived such pictorial structures as composition and the system of genres, so that “the first person who saw the photo (with the exception of its creators) would have taken it for a picture” (V. Benjamin), then the painting itself inevitably appeared at the other pole, “copying” any features inherent in photography. The possibilities that photography had were as different as its use among artists. For some, it was only a document that could accurately convey reality, or a collection of memory images, a phenomenon similar in aesthetic views, and, finally, a way of seeing.
